APA102 Pixel Protocol

A high-speed, individually addressable RGB LED protocol featuring a built-in IC and a 2-wire SPI-like interface for precise color and brightness control.

Overview

These LEDs use a dedicated data and clock line, allowing for fast, reliable updates and compatibility with both microcontrollers and microprocessors. Each 5V LED integrates a controller that processes 32-bit frames (including 5-bit global brightness and 24-bit RGB data), enabling smooth gradients, precise animations, and long chains with minimal timing issues. The protocol is less timing-sensitive than single-wire types, supports high refresh rates, and is ideal for demanding lighting effects.
